The Book of Job
What is the most important book in the Old Testament (OT)? Genesis for cosmology, Exodus for history, Leviticus for law, Joshua and Judges for politics, Psalms for poetry, Ecclesiastes for philosophy, Isaiah for polemics. But what’s the most important? That’s easy: The Book of Job.
“Who is God? Who am I? Who is God in relation to the World, who am I in relation to God, and who am I in relation to the World?” If any of these questions has ever occurred to you, Job is your book!
Job is equally relevant to Judaism and Christianity and the story appears independently in the Koran and other Mid-Eastern sources. The book contains some of the oldest texts in all of Scripture and includes material in 6 different languages. Plus, it is the foundational text for Ecotheology (the Green movement). Oh and one last thing: The Book of Job is almost universally misunderstood. Happy reading.
